iWitness Map Monthly Report: March 2013

The iWitness Pollution Map allows concerned citizens or other eyewitnesses to report accidents at oil refineries and chemical plants. The map also displays National Response Center (NRC) reports of chemical accidents in the state of Louisiana and the surrounding Gulf of Mexico waters.

Highlights from the iWitness Map in March ’13!
318 reports were made to the iWitness Pollution Map; industry reported 221 accidents to the National Response Center.
50% of citizens texted their location, odor observation, and health effects to the map.
22 Shreveport reports described flares and black smoke coming from Calumet Lubricants refinery.
35 Chalmette reports described funky odors and associated health effects.
