  • Monitoring and Evaluation of Refinery Efficiency Initiative Program Internship (1)

The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is seeking a hardworking, pragmatic, and fearless intern to create a monitoring and evaluation plan and indicators to measure the outcomes and impact of our Refinery Efficiency Initiative.  This is an unpaid internship and the duration and start date are negotiable.  We are looking for someone to create a monitoring and evaluation plan for a major aspect to our organization.  Basic education on creating a monitoring and evaluation plan with focus on researching and creating usable indicators.   A desire to work with environmental standards and environmental health is important to the organization.  The position will provide some community outreach and service as an important part of the term of service.

  • Petrochemical Accident Researcher (1)

We are looking for potential interns with excellent research skills, and an eye for detail to conduct research for our Refinery Efficiency Initiative, a cutting edge program to reduce and prevent pollution and accidents at Louisiana’s oil refineries. This initiative has produced the first comprehensive database of the state’s oil refinery accidents. These data are then utilized by communities affected by petrochemical pollution all over the state of Louisiana as a tool to inform them on the environmental quality in their communities and to empower them with knowledge to take action against industrial pollution. Special Skills/Tools Needed: Excellent research skills, attention to detail, ability to follow a research protocol, basic computer skills and must provide own laptop to work on at LABB office.

  • Social Media Intern (1)

The Social Media intern at LABB will assist in the development of social media networking (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.). The Social Media Intern will work in partnership with our Membership Program to execute LABB‘s social media plan and policy. Weekly meetings with the Canvass Director and Member Action Associate will be required to discuss social media outreach tactics, bi-weekly goals and performance review. One of the intern’s main objectives will be to create a visible return on the LABB’s social media investment (event attendance numbers, campaign participation levels, fundraising amounts, etc.). This intern will also help to develop and launch an online store, manage fulfillment, and a selling push. The online store will provide an additional revenue generating source to support our work.

  • Database Artist Internship (1)

The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is seeking a creative, organized, and hardworking intern to make a comprehensive database of pollution standards for our Refinery Efficiency Initiative.  This candidate will also be responsible for coordinating the creating of a database of sample results from our namesake bucket samples for air quality monitoring.  This is an unpaid internship and the duration and start date are negotiable.  We are seeking an organizational perfectionist with a desire to work with environmental standards and environmental health.  Database design takes a lot of foresight and motivation.  Community outreach and service are an important part of our organization and will be expected in the internship.  A competitive candidate will be selected to gain valuable experience in database creation and environmental justice.  This role will have a major impact on state and national regulation of air quality standards around industrial pollution.

  •  Mobile Application Developer (1)

We are looking for an intern to help us develop a mobile application for our iWitness pollution map. The map is an interactive community tool on our website that maps out where any type of industrial pollution accident report has been made. The intern will develop the application as an effective marketing tool, especially targeting youth, with the end goal of engaging communities in monitoring environmental and public health issues arising from petrochemical accidents.

  • Digital Media and GIS Interns for Plantation to Plant Project (unlimited)

The LABB is seeking digital media and GIS interns with a strong interest in cartography and history for our Plantation to Plant Project.  The GIS interns would create a map overlay of the petrochemical industry onto the popular old plantation tract map from New Orleans to Baton Rouge.  The digital media interns would create a 4D digital chronological story of one or two plantation to plant tracts.  Interns for this project would gain experience searching the libraries and archives of the river parishes.  The position requires a strong background in digital media (web sites, video) and developing web sites on various platforms using 3rd party applications. Interns will be assisting in the definition of requirements of an interactive media site, recommending architecture, 3rd party, applications and interface elements.

  • Graphic Design/Marketing  (1)

We are looking for an intern to help us market our iWitness pollution map. The intern will strategize more effective marketing tools, especially targeting the youth, with the end goal of engaging communities in monitoring environmental and public health issues arising from petrochemical accidents.

  • Archivist (1)

We have a long and great history of media coverage. The LABB is looking for someone to creatively archive and integrate our files. Media coverage needs to be sorted, complied, and digitized into a chronological archive. Interns will be working with both print, video, and electronic files.

  • Communications Intern (1)

We are looking for an intern to help craft and execute a communication plan supporting LABB’s new social business currently in development. This entails gaining a thorough understanding of this new social enterprise, determining and recommending the most promising communication avenues and executing the plan. This position requires knowledge, or ability to quickly learn old and new media and communication techniques. Must be a creative thinker. The position serves to develop and implement communication plans for LABB that assist in raising money to support our work.

  • Human Resources (1)

We are in need of an intern to help identify the best practices in interviewing and hiring and to review our office policies / human resources procedures. The intern will develop a revised performance evaluation system for staff members focusing on LABB program goals. In addition, he/she will recruit candidates for open LABB AmeriCorps VISTA positions and Environmental Justice Corps. Qualification: Demonstrated experience in human resources and hiring.

  • Photographer (1)

The LABB is seeking an intern to help us chronicle our work and the work of our community partners. Photographers will capture LABB involvement at events, press conferences, community meetings, as well as internal work in our office. Photographers will also be responsible for creating digital slideshows of their work.

  • Industrial Ecology Research Assistant (1)

The Research Assistant will use industrial ecology and related methodologies to develop an analytical framework for understanding and comparing the environmental impacts and outputs of local manufacturing processes and materials related to LABB’s emerging social business. The Research Assistant will apply and test this framework using various possible scenarios and compare them with other competing processes (e.g. offshore, petroleum-based products) in order to generate reliable industry-standard information to be used for planning, decision-making and brand positioning.                                                                                                                                                            Contact: Kristen Evans, Kristen@labucketbrigade.org.
